An aggressive ball handling guard at the University of Brigham Young University, Dick Nemelka was just the third BYU basketball player chosen to play in the college East-West All-Star Game (1966). Playing against much taller opponentsin the 1979 All-STar Game, the 6-foot guard scored 11 points, making 4 of 9 field goals, 3-of-3 FT and hauled in 5 rebounds.
Drafted by Utah of the American Basketball Association (ABA) he signed 'because he wanted to play close to home.'
Dick Nemelka played one season in the ABA, 1970-71, averaging 5.5 points per game and his all-around defensive work helped the Uatah pro team make the playoffs. Nemelka played in 9 playoff games, averaging 2.1 ppg. After the season ended he left for business and personal reasons. |
